Editorial Standards
How we report, verify, and publish at Youth News Corporation.
Accuracy and Verification
Every factual claim must be verified against a primary or credible secondary source before publication. Statistical claims must cite their original source directly. Where figures are contested, we note the dispute and present multiple credible estimates. Contributors must provide source links at the time of submission; desk editors verify each source independently.
Independence and Conflicts of Interest
YNC staff and contributors must disclose any financial, personal, or institutional relationship with subjects they cover. Where a conflict cannot be adequately managed, the contributor is reassigned. We accept no payment, gifts, or hospitality from sources or subjects of coverage.
Source Protection
Source protection is a non-negotiable editorial commitment. We will not disclose the identity of confidential sources to any third party — including governments and law enforcement — without explicit written consent from the source.
Right of Reply
Individuals and organisations subject to critical coverage have the right to respond before publication. YNC will make reasonable efforts to contact all named parties and will include their response or note that they declined to comment.
Corrections
We correct factual errors promptly. Corrections are appended to the original article with the date and nature of the correction clearly stated. We do not silently edit articles to remove errors. We do not delete articles to avoid accountability.
Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics
YNC editorial practice is guided by the SPJ Code of Ethics: seek truth and report it, minimise harm, act independently, and be accountable and transparent.
